Application of technology in the health field
Organised by the IE Healthcare Alumni Club, a Round Table on New Technologies and their implications in the healthcare sector was held at IE Business School’s Aula Magna, considering three complementary perspectives.
The meeting was presented and moderated by Luis Truchado, Managing Partner of EuroGalenus Executive Search and coordinator of the club, who first introduced Dr. Antonio López, professor at the UNED and expert in social networks, who focused the topic by developing the concept of relational illiteracy. According to his studies, digital social stratification should not be segmented by age -simply considering those under 25 as digital natives- as many digital immigrants achieve greater competence in handling new technologies than the apparent initial familiarity of adolescents.
Irene Tato, journalist and professor of health journalism, focused her presentation on Health 2.0 and the presence of e-patients in the networks, which are forcing e-doctors to reconvert. She gave us many examples from Spain and abroad of the use of social networks to obtain contrasted information on any pathology.
Juan de Portugal, CEO of SoftPoint, introduced the topic of online reputation. We have all created a lot of content for the Internet (blogs, photos, etc.), which, when they reach the cloud, cease to be our exclusive property and can be found and used by third parties. To counteract possible negative opinions – the most vocal – it is necessary to cultivate contacts, references and recommendations, i.e. the authority we can achieve on the Internet.
After an interesting and participative debate, a face-to-face networking meeting took place, sponsored by QUINTILES.
