On Wednesday October 2nd a round table on Executive Search (Headhunting) was held at the modern facilities of Caixa Forum in Madrid and organised by the Columbia Business School Alumni Association in Spain. Some of the most reputable consultants gathered to offer current data and projections on executive employment in Spain, the most sought after positions and trends among the most promising sectors.

Luis Truchado, partner/director of EuroGalenus and co-founder of GalenusJobs, moderated the meeting and opened with a brief presentation on the current state of the sector internationally. Truchado offered statistics from the International Association of Executive Search (AESC) and the candidate portal Bluesteps, showing how the area of Health/Life Sciences is positioned among the three sectors with the best future prospects for generating executive employment, along with Technology and Industry.

The second speaker, Miguel Ángel Zuil, Managing Partner of Boyden, made a detailed analysis of Diversity, which in Spain must start with gender equality, and gave greater importance to the concept of Inclusion in the business environment. Zuil offered comparisons of IBEX35 companies, the CNMV and the European Commission, and argued the initiatives in different organisations and shared some recommendable principles to manage it effectively.

Next, Marta Garrigues, Partner at Amrop Seeliger y Conde, focused her speech on technology and recruitment processes. Garrigues pointed out how this relationship has influenced the new ways in which companies search for talent, and opportunities, on the part of candidates. He also shared his vision of the impressive development of Big Data and other technologies, and their value as complementary tools in the daily work of the Executive Search Consultant (Headhunter).

No obstante, recomendó mantener una perspectiva abierta, pues sea por confidencialidad, por escasez, por baja motivación u otras razones,el valor de un Consultor/a humano sigue siendo muy necesario y en algunos casos, indispensable.

Plácido Fajardo, Managing Partner of Leaderland, closed the panel with a speech on career cycles and change decisions. He noted how important it is to understand this concept from the consulting profession and to know how to evaluate a candidate correctly, taking into account the decisions they have made during their professional career and the moment in their career when they decide to change. Plácido invited the attendees themselves to self-evaluate in this exercise in order to reach our career goals and stressed the importance of constant learning.

At the end of the presentations, an interesting debate took place, where the attendees, mostly alumni of international business schools, participated in a discussion on the relationship between consultants and candidates.
